CONTEXT
When starting my first acting course back in 2020, I was adamant to get as much training as I possibly could. The Bow Street Academy programme offered extremely valuable courses and I got trained in the following:
- Voice
- Character
- Ownership
- Improvisation
- Self-Taping
- Audition Technique
- Scene Work
- Movement
- Intimacy
- Script and Text Analysis
- Finding the Moment
- Combat
In 2021, at the end of the course, I attempted to do create a short film, called Family Man, with 3 other Bow Street students, to practice what we learned.
WHY I DID NOT SEEK REPRESENTATION
After filming Family Man, I understood that I was still “green” and needed to undertake more training and more experience.
I didn’t feel comfortable asking for representation as I knew I still had a lot of work to do, and only wanted to present myself to agencies and talent managers once I had more to offer.
In everything I do, I go the extra mile, and it was important for me that agencies would see me as someone who takes action, rather than swim in wishful thinking.
THE ACTION TAKEN
After filming Family Man, I took a 6 month gap to put enough money aside to start my own company (December 2021) and quit the 9-to-5 job all together (March 2022).
I applied for extra roles in shows such as Netflix’s Vikings, Valhalla, Season 3, from April ’22 until June ’22;
Then from summer 2022 Until April 2023, I:
- self-submitted myself to casting sites from 3 different countries (UK, IE and FR),
- sent 300+ applications,
- auditioned for dozens (both online and offline),
- got cast for 1 lead role per month on average (except holiday season),
- got my first IMDb credit
- got international recognition by being featured on AlloCiné (The website is considered the “French equivalent of IMDb“) with a supporting role for a French feature film, Yetzer Hara.
NEXT STEPS
While self-submitting I kept showing up to Masterclasses ran by some of the biggest casting directors in Europe (see CV for more information) and enrolled in the Houde School of Acting and in commercial classes with Mike Pointer from Hey, I Saw Your Commercial! during summer 2023. Moreover I sought mentorship from Wendy Alane Wright, the founder of the #1 online business training for actors worldwide.
NOW LOOKING FOR AN AGENT
After 3 years of constantly learning about the business, I am now looking for representation in the hopes that agencies and talent managers have enough proof of my proactivity. Getting representation will help me focus more on my training, so that I can develop my skills faster.
Thanks to my languages, I hope to get representation in several countries.
